Sleep, And You Shall See

Wylfryd Smythe Organic, creepy, natural, inward-looking music occupying a dreamy hinterland between sleep and waking. Nothing cosy here, but neither are there the clanking chains and murmuring gothics of cliched dark ambient. It's weird, unsettling but very, very beautiful.

about

“Sleep, And You Shall See,” a phrase that came to me during the summer of 2019, amid a troubled night of sleeplessness. As I laid in my bed, my betrothed calmly sleeping and slightly talking in her slumber, I thought to myself; is it the name of a song, a lyric, an album, a quote from an interview, a bible verse, something from a book... anything... … I couldn’t pinpoint it. What is this nocturnal tiding I seemingly created in my own mind? Is there a greater meaning here?

I got out of bed, wrote it on a piece of paper and stuffed it in my wallet. I felt hot. Really hot. I splashed cold water on my face and then went back to bed. Sleep eventually came to me, although not much, nor did I feel refreshed when the alarm rang out at 5:30 AM. Still feeling half asleep the phrase came back to me, instantly. I didn’t know what it meant or how it came to me, but I did know I had to save it and use it in some way later on. I checked my wallet. There was no paper with the phrase written on it. 1:30 AM. I awoke… did I?

‘Sleep, And You Shall See,’ is the latest recording from, House of the Maker; a twenty five minute EP, which primarily features the usage of the Tibetan Singing Bowl. This twenty five minute song features layer after layer after layer of various recordings I made while playing. The recordings have received a great deal of post work and I’ve transformed them into echoing dark drones, which I can only hope bring the listener to a trance like, yet relaxed state while drifting away to another world.

Accompanying the Tibetan Singing Bowl are some minor synthesized drones, as well as, field recordings captured in the very early morning hours, similarly during a period of sleeplessness. This is music solely intended for relaxing/napping/sleeping, mediation, yoga, reading, etc.
