During the creation of ‘Oblivion to you all’ there were several different versions of, ‘Back into the Hole Where I was Born.’ An early rough draft was mistakenly saved over at one point, there was also a version where a nuclear bomb is heard in the distance just seconds after the man kills himself, there’s the alternative vocal version found on the split with Breinskam, and of course the final version we all know (and love).

There was also an early version which involved the sampling of Del Shannon’s 1961 hit single, ‘Runaway.’ After the protagonist’s speech he places a quarter in a jukebox, and then the song plays, amongst eerie dark ambiance of course, while mid-way through the song he places the gun to his head and blows his brains out. At one point I really wanted to go with this version, but ultimately I felt it was disrespectful towards Del Shannon, who in real life killed himself (with a firearm) in 1990. The reason for choosing this song is because it was one of my favorite songs as a child, I remember absolutely loving it every time it played on the radio... and I still do today, too. Also the song itself notably features a clavioline, an early version of the analogue synthesizer. I knew even way back then I wanted to one day create music with synthesizers. RIP Del Shannon.
